If you’re looking for a website builder on a budget, you’ve come to the right place.
In this post, I’ll share three awesome options for free website builders in 2022.
Let's get started!
Google Sites
I put Google Sites at the top of the list because it’s the only free website builder that allows you to add a custom domain for free.
It’s great if you want to have a website but don’t want to pay for it.
In fact, it’s what I’ve done with two of my websites (kcfrenzy.com and tmst.xyz).
I wanted to use my custom domain, but I didn’t want to pay for hosting or other fees because I need to focus on other things right now.
And so far it’s worked great.
The sites were easy to build and work as a simple web presence for now until I’m ready to expand.
This is a good time to mention that I use Google Domains for all my website domains.
I like Google Domains because it’s easy to use, affordable, and integrates well with other products.
One of the products it integrates with is Google Sites. It’s super easy to connect your domain to your site,
All you have to do is click a button.
So if you need a good domain provider, consider using Google Domains.
But now back to Google Sites ha ha.
Google Sites does have some downsides.
It’s not great for SEO. You can’t edit any of the metadata for your pages and it doesn’t have a blog feature.
It doesn’t mean that your website won’t rank for anything.
But they don’t provide any SEO tools, so keep that in mind.
You can add analytics tracking, social media profiles (NEW FEATURE), and a variety of other Google products like YouTube videos to your website.
But it does have some limitations.
There is one caveat to add here.
Google Sites does allow for custom embed code.
So in theory, there are limitless possibilities if you add things to your site via custom code.
For example, you could add ecommerce capabilities to your site with this feature.
Companies like Square allow you to add a “Buy Button” to your site using embed code.
Google Sites makes it easy to add your own code with the click of a button.
All things considered, Google Sites is a great option for a free website builder.
Wix
Another great option for a free website builder is Wix.
Wix is what kdc-m.com is built on and it’s my favorite website builder of all time!
I love Wix because it’s 100% customizable, it’s secure, and they have amazing tools to run your business.
Most of the clients we work with have websites built on Wix.
Unlike Google Sites, Wix offers a robust set of SEO tools.
They also have email marketing, social media marketing, Wix Bookings, Wix Music, and a number of other features.
The downside of the free plan is that you can’t connect a custom domain and your site will display Wix ads.
But other than that, you get access to most of the features on the free plan.
One of the strengths of Wix is their blogging platform. It’s awesome! It’s easy to use and it works well for SEO.
I’ve seen a number of Wix websites rank #1 for certain keywords on Google.
Another great thing about Wix is that they have other plans you can upgrade to once you’re ready to expand.
They have business and ecommerce plans that are affordable for small businesses.
You really can’t go wrong with Wix. It’s one of the best website builders and my personal favorite!
Square Online
The third and final website builder I’ll mention in this post is Square Online or Square, for short.
It’s probably the best free option if you have an ecommerce business.
Here’s why.
You can get access to their ecommerce tools for FREE.
They are the only website builder that I know of that includes this in their free plan.
And if you use Square as your payment processor, then it’s a no brainer to use Square Online for your website.
It will connect seamlessly with your Square account and make managing your business so much easier.
Just like the other platforms, there are some downsides.
I think their website builder isn’t as user friendly and has more of a learning curve.
It’s a drag and drop builder but it takes some getting used to.
However, the benefits I mentioned above outweigh the cons.
They also have paid plans for adding a custom domain and to help you scale your business.
So if ecommerce is what you need, go with Square. They are a fantastic free website builder!
Summary
There are many free website builders out there, but I’ve only focused on three in this post.
How do you pick the best one for you?
In general, I think it depends on your goals. If you just need a free website, go with Google Sites.
If you want a free website that can expand as you go, then go with Wix or Square.
Best of luck with your website!
