Website Audits - Tips and Tricks for SEO in 2022

Updated: Nov 19, 2022

Online marketing is more competitive than ever! With over 1.1 billion websites in 2022, it can be hard to stand out and rank for organic traffic.

That's why website audits are so critical for any SEO campaign because they uncover issues and opportunities that you might not find otherwise.

In this video, I share two website audit tools and give a few real-life examples of how to take action on an audit right away.

SEO Audit Tools

Here are links to the two tools I mentioned in the video.

Real Life Examples

Here's some info about the examples I shared in the video.

A few years ago, I was contracted by a large tech company to help them with SEO for their blog.

They had a lot of content and great domain authority, but it wasn't getting any traffic and they couldn't figure out why.

So I did an audit on their site only to find out that all their blog content was set to no-index.

This means that none of their content could be indexed by search engines like Google.

That one setting was blocking all their content and denying them any chance to get organic SEO traffic.

Pretty unfortunate, right?

Once we fixed that one issue, everything got much better. The content was indexable and they started getting rankings and traffic shortly thereafter.

That's the power of doing a website audit. It only takes a few minutes but could save you time and money.

Example #2

Here's another real world example.

I had another client that had no idea some of their pages looked like this...

/copy-of-about-page
/copy-of-contact-page
/copy-of-resources-page
/copy-of-homepage

Not only is it a bad user experience and looks spammy, it's terrible for search engines.

They had around 20 pages with this problem and needed some help getting it resolved.

We were able to clean up the URL structure for those pages and implement a 301 redirect from the old pages to the new ones.

This fixed several issues all at the same time and was all made possible because we did a website audit.

We wouldn't have found the problem otherwise.

What opportunities would a website audit uncover for your business? Are there issues that you're unaware of?

Summary

If you want to optimize your site for SEO, do a website audit!

Organic traffic is the best kind of traffic because it comes from people who are searching for you.

The best way to know where to start is to do an audit and then go from there. Good luck!
